Make the effort to get to Jasper and you will discover why so many people who visit can’t wait to return. The town has a truly relaxed atmosphere, where even the elk grazing in the streets seem to be laid back. The mountain too has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and together they make for an unique winter experience. Direct flights into Edmonton offer ease of access to the resort, though many choose Jasper as a twin centre destination with Banff or Lake Louise, so flights into Calgary are an option too.

On The Slopes
Off The Slopes
Jasper’s ski area, Marmot Basin, is a scenic 20 minute drive or bus ride from Jasper town, but the views across the town and mountains beyond from the slopes make it worth the effort. The mountain has something for everyone – wide-open nursery slopes for beginners, plenty of options for novices looking to improve and lots of scope for intermediates looking to show-off their skills. Advanced skiers will enjoy the steeps and glades off Eagle Ridge, with those looking to find new lines able to hike the Knob or Cornice. The new Canadian Rockies Express has speeded up the route to the top incredibly and the new terrain park is much more accessible than before, close to the base lodge.
The town of Jasper still has a frontier feel. At the heart of the Jasper National Park, the town is surrounded by lakes, mountains and verdant forest. The railroad gave the town life and still long trains chug slowly past the grazing elk on the edge of town. Nightlife is very relaxed, with restaurants like Evil Dave’s and Fiddle River delighting the taste buds, but there are several bars like the De’d Dog catering for those after more of a buzz. There are plenty of activities on offer too, such as dog sledding, snowshoeing, wildlife tours and the impressive Maligne Canyon Icewalk.
