Vail can justifiably claim to be one of North America’s top resorts, not least for its extensive skiing, with over 5,200 acres of terrain. There is terrain for all abilities and accommodation for all group sizes and due to the way the resort has been laid out in front of the mountain, you never have far to walk to the nearest lift from any of the village areas.

The frontside which overlooks the main village and the Lionshead area is mainly interlinked, tree-lined slopes, which enjoy some of the most extensive grooming anywhere. This area is great for beginners and intermediates.
The Back Bowls are renowned – wide open and often deep with snow (the resort gets more than 8m of snow a season, on average) – plenty to keep powder-hounds entertained.
The resort’s highlight is for many, however, Blue Sky Basin, a host of trails, tree runs and rocky outcrops with a ‘backcountry’ feel.
The resort extends for several miles along the valley, but the core of the skiing and the off slope entertainment is in Vail Village and around the new Arrabelle development at Lionshead which is superb.
There are plenty of restaurants and bars and several clubs. Dining covers all major food groups and the nightlife is quite extensive too, there is even some lively straight off the slopes Après-ski.
Each area is linked by a free bus service. Activities such as tubing and snow-mobiling are also on offer and a whole world of retail therapy awaits at Silverthorne, on the way to Denver.
