On The Slopes
Off The Slopes
With 4200 skiable acres, Lake Louise is one of the largest ski areas in North America. The unique layout allows families and groups of varying abilities to ski together; there are beginner, intermediate and expert runs down from every chair. Beginners and intermediate skiers have access to an abundance of gentle slopes and long cruising runs. Experts can explore endless chutes, glades, gullies and remote bowls in some of the Rockies' most challenging terrain.
Its slopes are just few minutes from Lake Louise village and 45 minutes from Banff. The Front-side has some fantastic cruising, along with several advanced trails and glades as well as an excellent terrain park. Experts on their skiing holiday to Lake Louise Ski resort will head towards The Powder Bowls, which are a treasure trove of black diamonds. The glades below the Ptarmigan chair are breathtaking. The tree-lined slopes of the Larch area are gentler, but none the less inviting. Add to all this the stunning views and you have a ‘not–to-be-missed’ ski area.
Kids and Beginners:
Lake Louise is one of the best places for a “first timers” ski holiday with its English-speaking instructors and great range of ski-school programmes. The best place for children and beginner skiers for an introduction to skiing and snowboarding is in the Minute Maid Wilderness Adventure Park and the Sunny-T learning area. This fully inclusive beginner centre is next to the Daycare Centre and features the Sunny T-Bar beginner lift, and a magic carpet lift.
Lake Louise claims that any one can ski or ride off any chair. This is why!
Green signs marking the "Easiest Way" can be found at the top of each lift at the resort. All chair lifts and the Grizzly Express Gondola, have a green, easy way down from the top.
Novices
Start on Sunny T-Bar (lift D). This area is ideal to making your first experience on snow a great one! For the next step, take the Glacier Express Quad and the Wiwaxy beginners only run. The next steps (or slides) might be the beginner and low intermediate runs on the Front Side. The Glacier Express Quad services and nice easy run or you could grab the Grizzly Express Gondola for a couple of confidence building trails on the backside.
Intermediates & Advanced Intermediates and Better: Run #59 should not be missed, nor should the combination of Runs #39 and #8. Run #148, Larch, can be delightful. Run #132 reached by Summit Platter (lift A), is a tremendous high alpine experience that is definitely worth a go whenever visibility is good.
For those skiers and riders who are seeking the thrills of black diamond runs, focus on the backside alpine bowls, where areas like the Mineshaft and Jackpot will offer you a wide variety of super challenging steeps and chutes. These are great areas to head to on days with good visibility. On snowy or cloudy/flat light days, high end skiers and riders will want to check out places such as the Ptarmigan Chutes or places like the Lynx run at the Larch Area or the Men's World Cup Downhill Run.
Lake Louise is a small town. If you want a hotel surrounded by stunning scenery, this is the spot for you. The lake itself, frozen in winter, is a magical sight. There are a small number of shops and restuarants and just a few hotels to choose from.
Snowmobiling, heli-skiing & dog sledding have to take place outside the National Park but transfers are available from Lake Louise for these exciting activities.
