Record Snow In Quebec
Mont-Sainte-Anne in Quebec has just broken all its previous records by surpassing the 500cm marker for snow fall since the beginning of the season. Skiers and riders are reported to have embarked in a white gold rush to take advantage of the incredible powder conditions seen all over the skiable terrain, which has remained 100% open since December. At the same date last year, Mont-Sainte-Anne had registered 200cm of snow fall. Nearby Stoneham mountain resort is also well on its way to breaking a record, with more than 425cm of snow, versus 219cm last year.
Whistler Peak To Peak Gondola Opening December 12th
Work on the remarkable Peak to Peak gondola lift which will link Whistler and Blackcomb mountains at altitude for the first time is due to recommence in about a month with a tentative opening date of December 12th being mooted by resort officials. The lift will travel at 7.5 meters per second and take approximately 11 minutes to make the 4.4km crossing with one on the 28 cabins, each accommodating 24 seated and 4 standing passengers, departing every 49 seconds, giving a capacity of 2050 people per hour each way. "Being involved in a project of this magnitude is a once in a lifetime experience," said Rick Temple, Whistler Blackcomb's Peak to Peak project manager. "We made some great headway last summer during phase one of construction and by the end of October we had progressed significantly, setting us up nicely to tackle phase two this spring."
